Bacteria become immune to them and antibiotic resistant strains become very dangerous, because they proliferate in our antibiotic intensive food production industry. Then we have no way to combat these bacteria and they spread everywhere...including into our hospitals(MRSA anyone?), where surgical patients, old people, babies, etc get infected with something we can't cure because we're not developing any new antibiotics.
