Monsanto Gives rBGH the Boot PDF Print E-mail

Wow. Did we call it or what? Well, sort of.

Monsanto just announced that it's pursuing a divestiture of Posilac, or rBGH, which we predicted yesterday was headed toward the exit door of the marketplace anyway. While this doesn't mean rBGH is going away anytime soon, it does mean that Monsanto no longer sees it as profitable and wants to sell this piece of itself to another company. Though the details of the divestiture are unknown, it seems cows and consumers alike have something to celebrate. There's evidence of negative health implications for both species, and Monsanto has done everything to discredit these studies and push for state labeling restrictions that eliminate consumers' ability to choose rBGH-free products. It's unclear if Monsanto will continue research in other rBGH projects, like tilapia. My guess is no.

Are you an Envirovore?

It's true what our moms said...we are what we eat. In fact, it's truer than they thought. What I eat doesn't just affect me anymore, it affects all of us.

Unfortunately, the story of food can sometimes be complicated. But envirovores help each other out...which is why this blog will be bringing you news, tips, and information about food and the environment every step of the way.
