With about 4,700 farmers markets in the U.S., Ed Schafer, the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, thought it was time to declare August 3 - 9 National Farmers Market Week. In some communities, farmers markets seem to be on every corner come the weekend; in others, they may be few and far between. To locate a farmers market near you, check out the following resources:

Buy Fresh, Buy Local

Buying local is one way we can reduce our carbon footprint. And it's a good way to cut out the middleman, ensuring our local farmers get a fair share of our food dollars. Farmers market season will be over before we know it, so stock up!

Are you an Envirovore?

It's true what our moms said...we are what we eat. In fact, it's truer than they thought. What I eat doesn't just affect me anymore, it affects all of us.

Unfortunately, the story of food can sometimes be complicated. But envirovores help each other out...which is why this blog will be bringing you news, tips, and information about food and the environment every step of the way.
