Tyson's Labels Cover Up Truth PDF Print E-mail
Written by Kiki Hubbard

Talk about stretching the truth. Tyson Foods, the largest meat producer in the U.S., was labeling its chickens as "raised without antibiotics" before admitting it injected the eggs with antibiotics. Even as USDA pressed the company to be more truthful, Tyson continued a $70 million advertising campaign to convince consumers that its products were "antibiotic-free."

Tyson's competitors, including Perdue, Sanderson and Foster Farms, filed a lawsuit this past spring. They called themselves the "Truthful Labeling Coalition." In May, 2008, a federal judge ordered the poultry giant to stop using the label, and in June, USDA found that Tyson was injecting chicken eggs with an antibiotic that hadn't been disclosed to the agency, called gentamicin.

Although Tyson has now agreed to stop using "raised without antibiotics" labels, it has filed a lawsuit aimed at changing USDA regulations to allow for injecting antibiotics into eggs. We'll see how far they get. There's clearly a pattern in large agribusinesses keeping truth off our food labels through strong lobbying efforts, as we explained earlier today.

Ok, so this site has something talking about how dishonest Tyson is about its food and yet right next to this article is a banner ad for Tyson!?!?!?!? WHAT!!!???!?! I'm glad that someone is helping to bleed Tyson. Maybe if they waste their advertising money they will crumple.

And?

I agree, they lied and should be forced to retract. But Gentamicin is the same thing they give Grandma when she has her hip replaced so she doesn't die of staph infection. They are not trying to poison you.

it's not the idea of them poisoning us its the fact they are using antibiotics in the meat. humans will develope an immunity to the antibiotics so when you're old an need tha hip replaced the staph infection will run rampant in your body because it doesn't do anything for you...
or the staph infection will mutate and the antibiotics that you are given won't work..

go ahead eat that tainted meat..

Big Companies Failing
written by Uncle B, November 19, 2008
We voted for the big companies with our paychecks and supported everything they did in the same way! The deaths of the big outfits herald the onslaught of the Great Depression and the suffering we are about to go through! This is it folks! No more fast foods neatly butchered in cello packages, no more new car models delivered to the local dealer to tickle our fancies, Empty shelves in deserted molls, cash so short we barter for food, safe banking a distant memory, people on bicycles everywhere, the odd rickshaw on the streets, stale and out of date foods in the supermarkets, some products already disappearing, many favorite purchases priced too high to bring home! cheaply made foreign products priced beyond belief on hardware shelves, stores selling third rate goods to survive, people buying it in "remember when" mode, lead paint on kids toys, once forbidden, now "unnoticed" by price concious consumers - Good solid guarenteed high quality Made in U.S.A. products GONE! When the Caddilac car is imported from Asia as a knock-off product we will know we have hit bottom but it will be too late to change! We have already lost what our forefathers left us, soldout by George W Bush and his free trade neo-con gangsters and NAFTA! The patents, the very blueprints to our success are now sold to China - we are doomed!

Immunity
written by JDEJ, November 19, 2008
We don't get immune to antibiotics because they don't do anything to us. Bacteria become immune to them and antibiotic resistant strains become very dangerous, because they proliferate in our antibiotic intensive food production industry. Then we have no way to combat these bacteria and they spread everywhere...including into our hospitals(MRSA anyone?), where surgical patients, old people, babies, etc get infected with something we can't cure because we're not developing any new antibiotics. It is poisoning us.

Are you an Envirovore?

It's true what our moms said...we are what we eat. In fact, it's truer than they thought. What I eat doesn't just affect me anymore, it affects all of us.

Unfortunately, the story of food can sometimes be complicated. But envirovores help each other out...which is why this blog will be bringing you news, tips, and information about food and the environment every step of the way.
